This week we are in the classroom writing rough copies of our descriptive reports. Make sure your introduction has a hook, thesis statement, and a plan sentence (see review attached here). We will also have our last spelling test next Tuesday. The assignment page is due that same day and will be one of the last chances you have to bring up your current grade. If you have any missing assignments, the last day to submit those is Monday.

Spelling tests and book talks today. In my classroom, I've posted all of the home works we've done this term. If you have incomplete homework, it is your responsibility to come in at noon to finish it. Marks will be due before you know it. I know how much you all groan when it comes to using a dictionary, so I assume many of you don't stop during a reading session to look up words you aren't familiar with. Using context clues, you can usually figure out what the word mean. This is an important reading strategy that you should be using any time you read anything whether it's in English, Science, or even Math class.

We will look at what you learned about the characters of Robin Hood by using the different methods of characterization: how the characters act, what they say, what they look like, and how other characters react to them. Finally, we'll move on to discuss conflict in stories. We now know that it's often the antagonist that creates problems (conflict) for the protagonist. What are the different types of conflicts and how do they affect a story? |

We had a very quick meet and greet today. Tomorrow we'll go through my classroom expectations and evacuation procedures. HOMEWORK: Bring a book to read during silent reading. How to choose a best fit book:
Select a page in a book that looks like it might interest you. Start reading. If you count to 5 words you don't know before you get to the bottom of that page, maybe it is not the best fit book for you at the moment. Make note of the title and come back to it later. |
